Hello, Today, I will have to combine the BBC with the regular Kata class for Sensei will be absent. He wants Heian 3 and 4 be covered. I will break important movements on Heian 4 down and try to improve each movement of the kata. Also, application of selected moves, team kata, and competition. For the upper belt class, "Jion" and "Bassai Dai", incorporation, Taka Maeshima's views. (It is not the only way, as I said before. But, with many senseis' views, you will discover your own thoughts and understanding of application, etc. Osu, HKK

Hi. Thanks for those who attended the BBC and the regular class last Tuesday.
Stryk: Upper body looks "retreated" especially when you block. Thus, the upper body does not look straight, and more importantly, some techniques look as if you are not applying techniques to make the kata real. In other words, retreating power, even with the strengths of muscles and force, does not make one look "fighting" or "defending".
Reto: Thanks for attending the BBC. It is very flattering that you take time to attend even if you cannot remain for the regular class. You do well, when we break moves into one technique a time, but when we do kata, or whole sequence of moves, hip movement disappears. Sometimes, it would be good to focus on the hip movement and NOT kime or power. Kime should come form the hip along our long karate journey
Ana: As you and I both know, the hip while Kokutsu Dachi is a problem. It will be a lot of burden to the back leg, but, what about trying to "sit" on your back leg. Obviously, you cannot sit in comfortable position like you do on a chair. It will be sitting with half your butt. lol Naturally, I hope, the hip will be tacked in. Let's try this next time. I have the same problem, but ALL the karate movement, we have to tack in the hip. In case of you and me, we should concentrate on that. Your hip movement is big. I appreciate that you try. And even though, the movement is clear, it does not look strong because the power is not coming form lower abdomen. To tighten the lower abdomen, we have to tack our butt in.
Dima: Same as Reto, sometimes. In a sequence of movement, you tend to forget the hip. As I told Reto above, some time, try to focus only on that. And as Sensei stresses these days, some times, we all should focus on snap. Lower your stance a bit more, and you will look much better.

Hiroko Senpai, thank you for these comments. I feel a big difference if I apply hip, so I also feel it when I forget and wake up. So I will try not to let my hip go to "sleep" but stay focused, have a nice day and see you in training. Oss!

Thanks, Hiroko for your valuable observation. I will try to focus on tightening the abs and tucking in the hip...See you later tonight! Ana
