Misconception of many karate-ka is that they tend to believe one way that they hear from Sensei or Senpai is all what it is. That's why karate students say "But my sensei said..." This annoys me.
1)Anybody can be called Sensei or senpai. What is the true quality of the person, and what kind of experience he has?
2)there is no one correct way as far as 'mechanism' and body dynamic are concerned.
3) there are various ways to interpret kata and unlimited ways of bunkai. (Note:Differentiate that movements of kata themselves are firmly set in Best Karaate and also Technical Committee every year)
So, don't say "but i was taught..." or "Sensei said"
open your eyes and experiment more thing.
Last week at, the East Coast Tournament, I( had an opportunity agai to be taught one on one by Taka Maeshima. Again, he is not the only expert, and his ways of karate are not the only ways. However, given his experiences and background as karateka in Japan, his theories should be well established.
I don't know why I got so lucky in the past two ISKF events, where basically he taught me and coach me with various body mechanics. Some of karaeka came up to us, wanting to join us, but as we continued to speak in Japanese, they left.
So, I would like to introduce some of the theory and body mechanism that he coached me in the past two ISKF events.
I would like to do it incorporated in a few kata: Jion, Gankaku, and Heigan 2.
Of course, we cannot do all the parts of those kata, but just bits and parts of them.
Hope to see you in class today.
