Hello, all. Today, we will continue to practice Master Yaguchi's emphases on heel connection to the floor and arm/elbow connection to the body, as we practice two kata that he covered during the Instructor Trainees' Class in the Master Camp 2014: Jion and Kanku-Dai. We will focus on these two kata for the next few sessions, I think. Thanks. Osu, Hiroko

Thank you for those who showed up in this heat. The dojo was like sauna yesterday evening. As you know, Neo Tran joined The BBC for the remaining of the summer. The new BBC sessions with some new members are scheduled to start after Labor Day. But, as I mentioned before, attendance is not predictable during the summer months, and the BBC may break some times during July and August. Thus, the remaining of the current BBC sessions cannot demand strict attendance. Neo is planning to attend when he can during the summer and will see if he can continue thereafter. Hope that he can continue somehow. As you see, he has very good techniques and spirit.
Those who haven't posted or emailed me of your summer schedule, please do so, so that I can predict attendance of members during the summer months.
Here are some comments:
Andrey: You started developping a weired habit during Kokutsu-Dachi. Why? Body is shifting backward, and stance was not solid. Jodan Sokumen Uchi of the beginning of Kanku-Dai (the moves that you go left and right) could be stronger. Also, the opening movement is somehow small. This may be your next Kata. So watch Youtube and learn. Master the "connection" between arm/elbow and body and be contentious of it all the time. Now that you are black belt, slacking this is a big minus. Close your fists entirely.
Ana:I didn't correct you yesterday so that you can focus on learning Kanku-Dai, but the knee of your Kokutsu Dachi's core leg needs to be pulled more outward. After you can do that, start thinking about tucking your butt in. When you were focusing on the connection between your body and arm/elbow, your hand techniques started looking more solid and stopped floating around so much. Also, as I mentioned, examine your fist and wrist. Practically speaking, those are not safe grips, and aesthetically speaking, those fists look very "beginner". Let's talk more about it.
Neo:Kokutsu-Dachi and Kiba-Dachi are sometimes too high. Especially, while Kokutsu-Dachi, upper body was not straight. Yoko-kegage in Kanku-Dai (same as Heian 4Dan)needs to work. Foot was not bladed and kick didn't look like Yoko-keage. Elbow strike (Empi Uchi) after that needs to accompany strong hip. Good understanding of "Jinchu (Center of opponent body + attacking line) and connection of your elbow and body that we talked about.

Thanks very much, Hiroko-san for your comments. Am aware of the Kokutsu problem and sometimes I look fun and correct myself. Will look into why I'm not pulling the knee out. Also will be more aware of fist/wrist issue as it doesn't look good at all. I think this body connection awareness is very helpful.
Will reply as to Summer schedule under that posting.
