Hello, BBC Members! The tournament is coming up!!!!!!!!!! It's is good to focus on cleaning up your kata and stay light and fluid for Kumite even for those who are not participating to the tournament. Today, we will continue to practice on all Heian, Tekki1, Jion, Enpi, and Kanku-Dai. Maybe Hangetsu and Jitte, if we have time. Also we will do short and light free sparring if we have time. Today's class is pretty simply a tournament prep. Eat well, rest well, and get your mind ready for the tournament. You should eat lots of curbs a day before to feel energetic on the day of the tournament. I did it for my last Dan Exam, and I had amazingly high energy. Having some quick and filling snacks ready for the day of the tournament, such as bananas, nuts, etc. Osu. Hiroko

HI Hiroko, It sounds great but I am not sure I can make it to BBC today, I do not have access to city bike share so I am thinking of a combination of walking+metro+bus to make it to the dojo in time. Oss, Pallavi

Thank you Hirokosan Senpai for the good tips. Today I will be trying to get to the BBC but might be late because the Meetings have started here at my workplace and the last session is supposed to end 6.30 p.m. but might go on more... but I will be able to stay for training. Ossu!

Thanks for letting me know of your late arrival/absence. I appreciate it. Pallavi, rest well now. Your focus will be on the exam in May. Here are some comments:
Andrey:Your Heian Yondan got significantly better at the end of the regular class. Focus on the low hip of Gedan Juuji-uke; Yokogeri Prep foot before the kick; transition of Kokutsu to Zenkutsu after Kakiwake-uke; thrust of the core leg/thigh when execute Maegeri; and snapping hip and thrust it before Hiza-geri (knee kick). For Kumite, you need a die hard-commitment. Cover your face and perpare the worst case of "aiuchi" (simultaneous attack) when you can't score before the opponent. Mentality of Kamikaze. Practice Kata and Kumite with good Kiai.
Reto: Need to work on Kokutsu. 80/20 or even 90/10 distribution of weight. Start with 70/30, but you will need to examine your stance with a mirror. Good Maegeri in Heian Yondan. Just your Kokutsu is ruining your Heian Yondan. For Kumite, fight with an appropriate distance. You fight too close because you are not used to Suriashi get in and get out. Wall drills in the beginning of BBC is good to practice that. Also, do some range exercises to be able to lower your body with a long Zenkutsu stance. (hip in). These things will prepare you to be able to get in and out long and quick. Right now, your hip is evading the attack and you are trying to score only with punching hand. I appreciate your energy!

Thank you Senpai Hiroko. After my last intense training from 9. Kyu to 3. Kyu from 2002-2006, just before I left my last club, it was indeed my Kokutsu that put me in major trouble, because I just not figured it out. so I am glad that now I am at the same point and can train to overcome it. It will be challenging, because the major prbolem I have is with my foot joints. Thank you for your sustained efforts to improve our Karate, I keep practicing, oss!
